Development of a Computational Fluid Dynamics Model for Ice Formation: Validation and Parameter Analysis

In the history of civil aircraft transportation, ice formation has been identified as a key factor in safety flight. Anti-icing and deicing systems have emerged through years with aim to prevent or eliminate on wing airfoils, control surfaces probes. Modern flying machines demand more efficiency order reduce carbon footprint increase sustainability flight transport. achieve this goal, need an efficient low power consuming system is fundamental. This paper proposes new model for accretion using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). permits simulation shape formed over profile varying boundary condition (i.e., speed, liquid water content, so on). The proposed also takes into account amount heat transferred between surrounding environment includes effects air turbulence process. CFD simulations validated NASA experimental outcome show good agreement. can be used investigate various parameters such temperature results evidence that accurately predict process suitable optimize design anti-icing helicopters. approach not limited aerospace but exported other applications wind turbine, energy management, infrastructure.
